One of the more significant ideas in bond valuation is term to development. Term to development ââ¬Å"specifies the date or number of years before a bond develops (or expires)â⬠(Reilly and Brown, 2002, p. 697). Another significant idea is the coupon of bond which ââ¬Å"indicates the pay that the bond financial specialist will get over the life (or holding time) of the issueâ⬠of a bond (Reilly and Brown, 2002, p. 697). Other than ideas term to development and coupon of bond, the other significant ideas incorporate the head or the standard estimation of the security yet people in general is commonly acquainted with these ideas. II. Proportions of Bond Yield Under Various Assumptions (and models) There are in any event five proportions of security yield. Each measure includes a series of expectations. 1. Respect Maturity (YTM) As call ed attention to by our PowerPoint slides, ââ¬Å"Bond costs and financing cost riskâ⬠, the respect development or YTM ââ¬Å"is the yield vowed to the bondholder if the security held up to development and all coupons are reinvested at the guaranteed yieldâ⬠(Slide 17, ââ¬Å"Bond costs and loan fee riskâ⬠). ... 214-215). Fabozzi (2008, p. 214) affirmed that respect development ââ¬Å"is the loan cost that will make the current estimation of the income from a security equivalent to its market cost in addition to gathered interest.â⬠Fabozzi (2008, p. 214) brought up that ââ¬Å"an iterative strategy is utilized to discover the loan fee that will make the current estimation of the incomes equivalent to the market cost in addition to gathered interest.â⬠Following the Fabozzi (2008, p. 214) model, assume a bond with a presumptive worth of $100 promising installments of 7% per annum payable semi-yearly or like clockwork is being sold at $94.17. In view of the parameters characterized for the bond, the bond will win for the bond purchaser the estimation of $3.50 like clockwork in addition to $100 toward the finish of the multi year. Fabozzi (2008, p. 214) called attention to that when the markdown rate used to get the current estimation of the installments from the security is 3.5%, th e current estimation of the security is $100.00. At the point when the rebate pace of 3.6% is utilized to decide the current estimation of installments from bond, the current estimation of the bond is $98.80. At the point when the markdown pace of 3.7% is utilized, the current estimation of the bond is $97.62. At the point when the markdown pace of 3.8% is utilized, the current estimation of the bond is $96.45. At the point when the markdown pace of 3.9% is utilized, the current estimation of the bond is $95.30. At last, when the markdown pace of 4.0% is utilized, the current estimation of the bond is $94.17. Therefore, in light of these, Fabozzi (2008, p. 214) inferred that 4.0% is the cost of the security and ââ¬Å"hence, 4.0% is the semi-yearly respect maturity.â⬠All calculations originated from Fabozzi (2008). Subsequently, we can think about that the respect development or YTM of the bond as the premium really paid to the speculation of $94.17 made by the purchaser of bo nd and the incomes of $3.50 Amora Seeleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11553095884718277985noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4616406433784555817.post-1660340152643409972020-08-21T10:58:00.001-07:002020-08-21T10:58:03.641-07:00How impetuously EssaysHow hastily Essays How hastily Paper How hastily Paper Objectivity, contradict to recklessness, implies that before one settles on a choice, one would ponder over the choice and thinking ahead about the result to settle on sure he choice is sensible and shrewd. Shakespearean play of Romeo Juliet, passes on the message of how that minor sparkle of carelessness during ones young years can prompt negative and obliterating results, of which changed ones life everlastingly in a not good way. Romeo, the hero of the play, is an ideal case of an adolescent whose choices and activities depend on hastiness. Take Romeos relationship among Rosalie and Juliet for Instance. In the start of the play, Romeo was deploring to Benevolent how he adored Rosalie, how Roseanne Is the main live of his life, and how he was unable to live without her. One more pleasant than my adoration? The all powerful sun Newer saw her match since first world started ( Act 1, Scene 2, 94-95) However, he deserted the affection for Rosalie in a split second after observing Juliet just because. Presently, Rosalie was a sworn lady, so Romeos give up of his adoration to her doesn't influence her. Be that as it may, Juliet isn't, envision how might Juliet respond to a similar circumstance had Romeo done likewise to her? Would not she be crushed and scarred? This shows during ones adolescent years, one can be flighty about affection, which may bring about somebody getting injured genuinely and intellectually. Another great showing of Romeos hastiness is the union with Juliet. Romeo had just known Juliet for an incredibly short measure of time. Be that as it may, Romeo despite everything chooses to wed Juliet inside long periods of seeing her just because. This Decision was totally superfluous and Impetuous for first, he knows negligible Information about Juliet, and second, Juliet Is a Caplet. He sworn adversary of his family. This choice would Likely reason shock and a sentiment of disgrace and shame among the two families, along these lines starting inescapable quarrel and battles between the two families which can raise besides ruckus as the Prince of Verona isn't thoughtful towards quarrel and battles. Additionally on the grounds that Romeo know negligible data about Juliet, he is probably going to wind up abandoned in a despondent marriage as terrible marriage frequently occurs in the event that one doesn't have the foggiest idea about their accomplice well. Notwithstanding Romeos carelessness, after observing Gullets counterfeit demise, he chooses to murder himself, in spite of the reality he saw clear indications of life even with Juliet. O my affection, my better half! Demise, that hath sucked the nectar of thy breath. Hath had no force yet upon thy excellence. Thou workmanship not won. Excellence Is ensign yet Is blood red In thy lips and In thy cheeks. What's more, passings pale banner Is not progressed there. (Act 5, scene 3, 91-96)The unfortunate demise of Romeo In the end was likewise expected Tort adolescents AT Nils age are Kelly to De Impetuous, additionally Decease en Knows nothing about Juliet. The rashness is at long last what murdered him. Similarly to Romeo, another character who represents how careless choice can cause negative results would be Juliet. Which in like manner to Romeo, additionally finished with a sad demise. Juliet had settled on numerous hasty choices all through the play, some of which were fundamentally the same as Romeos choices. For example, proposing the possibility of union with Romeo, notwithstanding the reality the she realized Rome was a Montague, the sworn adversary of her family. My lone love sprung from my lone detest. (Act 1, Scene 5, 136) This can prompt more noteworthy fight between the two families and bring inconvenience upon her family as clarified in Paragraph one. Moreover, Juliet let Romeo into her room the prior night Romeos expulsion, it is incredibly rash, for anybody could have strolled in on the couple any second and they would wind up in an exceptionally tangled circumstance where Romeo could end up killed on the grounds that i n those days it uproarious be viewed as a shame upon the female side familys notoriety. At last, after discovering Romeo dead, Juliet additionally chooses to end herself by wounding herself in the chest. She didn't mull over some other decisions or thoughts. Emulate, Noise? At that point I will be brief. O glad blade, this is thy sheath, there rust and let me pass on. (Act 5, Scene 3, 169-171) Does this scene not appear to be recognizable? As Romeo responded a similar way when he saw her? This further favors youngsters are careless commonly in this manner can cause negative results, for example, demise. Appeared from past model, Romeo and Juliet are extremely reckless. Be that as it may, the most careless character in the play must be no other however Table. Known for his tyrannous temper and rash mentality, Tables hastiness is past any characters in the play. Which additionally in like manner to different reckless characters, finished with a deplorable demise. For example, at Lord Caplets party, he must be limited from endeavoring to duel with Romeo and murdering him despite the fact that Lord Caplet, his uncle, instructed him not to. This, by his voice, ought to be a Montague. Get me my Rapier, kid. What, sets out the slave come here, secured with a trick face, to mock and disdain at our seriousness? Presently by the stock and respect of my family, to strike him dead I hold it not a wrongdoing! (Act 1, Scene 5, 51-57) Moreover to his carelessness at the gathering he likewise concludes that he would acknowledge the duel with Meretricious, regardless of recognizing the way that he would be seriously rebuffed by the Prince of Verna. Whats considerably progressively reckless is that, subsequent to murdering Meretricious; he additionally acknowledged the duel with Romeo, rather than fleeing, presently he have 2 society on him which would cost him his life regardless of whether he did wily Romeo. Thou vomited kid, you spent time with him here, and youre going to go to paradise with him. Act 3, scene 1, 126-127) This last demonstration of rashness at long last cost him his life, for Romeo kills him. From the ideal models of gore and demise brought about by the characters careless choice. Shakespeare was clear about how youngsters can wind up in negative outcomes on the off chance that t he individual in question were to act rashly. Had Romeo, Juliet, or Table even Just mulled over those choices for a second, they would have not end up dead. Similarly as the truism goes Few things are brought to an effective issue by careless want, yet most by quiet and reasonable thinking ahead. The conventional view, going back to the initial press coverage in 1945, was that the use of atomic weapons was justified as it ended a long and very costly war. However, over the intervening decades, other interpretations of the decision to strike two Japanese cities have been offered. Alternative explanations include the idea that the United States was largely interested in using atomic weapons as a way of ending the war quickly and keeping the Soviet Union from getting involved in the fighting in the Pacific. Fast Facts: Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb President Truman made the decision to use the atomic bomb with no public or congressional debate. He later formed a group known as the Interim Committee to decide howââ¬âbut not whetherââ¬âthe bomb should be used.A small group of renowned scientists, including some involved in the creation of the bomb, advocated against its use, but their arguments were essentially ignored. The Soviet Union was set to enter the war in Japan within months, but the Americans were wary of Soviet intentions. Ending the war quickly would prevent Russian participation in the fighting and expansion into parts of Asia.In the Potsdam Declaration, issued on July 26, 1945, the United States made a call for the unconditional surrender of Japan. Japans rejection of the demand led to final order to proceed with atomic bombing. Trumans Options When Harry Truman became president after the death ofà Franklin D. Rooseveltà in April 1945, he was informed of a momentous and extraordinarily secret project: the development of the first atomic bomb. A group of scientists had approached Roosevelt years earlier, expressing fear that Nazi scientists would develop an atomic bomb. Eventually, theà Manhattan Projectà was organized to create an American super weapon fueled by an atomic reaction. By the time Truman was informed of the Manhattan Project, Germany was nearly defeated. The remaining enemy of the United States, Japan, continued fighting in an incredibly bloody war in the Pacific. In early 1945, campaigns onà Iwo Jimaà andà Okinawaà proved very costly. Japan was being heavily bombed by formations of a new bomber, theà B-29. Despite heavy casualties, especially among Japanese civilians killed in an American incendiary bombing campaign, the Japanese government seemed intent on continuing the war. JULY 16, 1945: Manhattan Project officials, including Dr. Robert J. Oppenheimer (white hat) and General Leslie Groves (next to him), inspect detonation site of the Trinity atomic bomb test. The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images / Getty Images In the spring of 1945, Truman and his military advisers had two obvious options. They could resolve to fight a prolonged war against Japan, which would probably mean having to invade the Japanese home islands in late 1945 and perhaps even continue fighting into 1946 or beyond. Or they could continue working on acquiring a functional atomic bomb and seek to end the war with devastating attacks on Japan. Lack of Debate Before the atomic bomb was used for the first time there was no debate in Congress or among the American public. There was a simple reason for that: almost no one in Congress had been aware of the Manhattan Project, and the public had no inkling that a weapon that could end the war was on the horizon. Even the many thousands who worked on the project at various labs and secret facilities were unaware of the ultimate purpose of their labor. Yet in the summer of 1945, as the atomic bomb was being prepared for its final testing, a closely contained debate over its use did emerge within the circle of scientists who had contributed to its development.à Leo Szilard, a refugee Hungarian physicist who had petitioned President Roosevelt to begin work on the bomb years earlier, had grave concerns. The main reason Szilard had urged the United States to begin work on the atomic bomb was his fear that Nazi scientists would develop nuclear weapons first. Szilard and other European scientists who worked on the project for the Americans had considered the use of the bomb against the Nazis to be legitimate. But with Germanyââ¬â¢s surrender in May 1945, they had concerns about using the bomb against Japan, which did not seem to be developing its own atomic weapons. Szilard and physicist James Franck submitted a report to Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson in June 1945. They argued that the bomb should be not be used against Japan without warning, and that a demonstration explosion should be arranged so the Japanese leadership could understand the threat. Their arguments were essentially ignored. The Interim Committee The secretary of war formed a group called the Interim Committee, which was tasked with deciding how the bomb was to be used. The issue of whether it should be used was not really an issue. The thinking in the highest levels of the Truman administration and the military was quite clear: if the atomic bomb could shorten the war, it should be used. (Original Caption) President Harry S. Above group makes up the Interim Committee to investigate the future uses of atomic energy. Bettmann Archive / Getty Images The Interim Committee, which comprised government officials, military officers, scientists, and even a public relations expert, determined that targets for atomic bombs should be a military-industrial facility deemed important to Japanââ¬â¢s war-related industries. Defense factories tended to be located in or near cities, and would naturally be located not far from housing for many civilian workers. So it was always assumed that civilians would be in the target zone, but that was not unusual in the context of the war. Many thousands of civilians had died in the Allied bombing of Germany, and the firebombing campaign against Japan in early 1945 had already killed as many as a half-million Japanese civilians. Timing and the Soviet Union As the worldââ¬â¢s first atomic bomb was being readied for a test blast in a remote desert area of New Mexico in July 1945, President Truman traveled to Potsdam, a suburb of Berlin, to meet with Britainââ¬â¢s Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Churchill had known the Americans had been working on the bomb. Stalin had been officially kept in the dark, though Soviet spies working within the Manhattan Project had been passing along information that a major weapon was being developed. One of Trumanââ¬â¢s considerations at the Potsdam Conference was the entry of the Soviet Union into the war against Japan. The Soviets and the Japanese were not at war, and were actually adhering to a non-aggression pact signed years earlier. In meetings with Churchill and President Roosevelt at the Yalta Conference in early 1945, Stalin had agreed that the Soviet Union would attack Japan three months after the surrender of Germany. As Germany had surrendered on May 8, 1945, that placed the Soviet Unions entry into the Pacific war on August 8, 1945. Corbis via Getty Images / Getty Images As Truman and his advisers saw it, Russian help fighting Japan would be welcomed if the Americans would be facing more years of grueling combat. However, the Americans were very wary of Soviet intentions. Seeing the Russians acquire influence over Eastern Europe, there was a great interest in preventing Soviet expansion into parts of Asia. Truman knew that if the bomb worked and could possibly end the war quickly, he could prevent widespread Russian expansion in Asia. So when a coded message reached him in Potsdam informing him that the bomb test was successful, he could engage Stalin with greater confidence. He knew he would not need Russian help to defeat Japan. In his handwritten journal, Truman jotted down his thoughts in Potsdam on July 18, 1945. After describing a conversation with Stalin, he noted, ââ¬Å"Believe Japs will fold up before Russia comes in. I am sure they will when Manhattan [referring to the Manhattan Project] appears over their homeland.â⬠Surrender Demand At the Potsdam conference, the United States issued a call for unconditional surrender of Japan. In the Potsdam Declaration, issued on July 26, 1945, the United States, Great Britain, and the Republic of China argued that Japanââ¬â¢s position was futile and its armed forces should surrender unconditionally. The documentââ¬â¢s final sentence stated: ââ¬Å"The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction.â⬠No specific mention was made of the atomic bomb. On July 29, 1945, Japan rejected the Potsdam Declaration. This letter of warning to the Japanese people was dropped from airplanes over Japanese cities following the first Hiroshima atomic bomb blast. Corbis via Getty Images / Getty Images Two Bombs The United States had two atomic bombs ready to use. A target list of four cities had been determined, and it was decided that the bombs would be used after August 3, 1945, as weather permitted.à The first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Its destruction was enormous, but Japan still did not appear willing to surrender. On the morning of August 6 in America, radio stations played a recorded address by President Truman. He announced the use of the atomic bomb and issued a warning to the Japanese that more atomic bombs could be used against their homeland.à The Japanese government continued to reject calls for surrender. The city of Nagasaki was attacked with another atomic bomb on August 9, 1945. Whether or not the dropping of the second atomic bomb was necessary has long been debated. Controversy Endures Over the decades, it was generally taught that the use of the atomic bomb was to end the war. However, over time the issue of its use being part of an American strategy to contain the Soviet Union has also gained credence. A national controversy over the decision to use the atomic bomb erupted in the mid-1990s, when the Smithsonian Institution made changes to a proposed exhibit featuring the Enola Gay, the B-29 that dropped the Hiroshima bomb. As originally planned, the exhibit would have included criticism of the decision to drop the bomb. Veterans groups, arguing that the use of the bomb saved the lives of troops who would have died in combat during an invasion of combat, protested the planned exhibit. Sources: Cheek, Dennis W. Best Answers [pic]In many cases, interviewers will want to know what you expected from your last job when you were hired, so, be prepared to answer the interview question What were your expectations for the job and to what extent were they met? There isnt a right or wrong answer to this question. The best way to respond is to discuss what you expected when you took the job and give examples of how the position worked out for you. If the job wasnt exactly what you expected, its fine to mention that. However, you should focus on the job itself, not the company, your boss, or your co-workers (if they were a problem). Do be careful how you answer and dont focus too much on the negative. Instead, address the highlights of the job. When responding, be specific. Prepare some examples to share with the interviewer in advance. For example, if your job involved creating web applications using Cold Fusion, discuss the specific programs you developed and the responsibilities you were given. If you were provided training and opportunities for professional development to help you achieve your goals, mention that, as well. What were your starting and final levels of compensation? Best Answers [pic]Interviewers expect a candidate for employment to be able to provide the details of their compensation history. Be prepared to tell the interviewer how much you earned at each of your prior positions. Make sure that what you tell the interviewer matches what you listed on your job application. Refresh your memory prior to the interview by reviewing your compensation history, so, you can speak in detail and accurately. Dont exaggerate or inflate your earnings. Many employers will check references and confirm your salary history prior to making a job offer. A discrepancy between what you reported and what the employer says could knock you out of contention for the job. The best way to prepare is to download a sample job application ahead of time. Complete the sample application and review it prior to the interview. â⬠¢ What were your responsibilities? Best Answers [pic]When you are asked questions related to your current or previous positions, its important to be specific and to be positive about what you did in your previous position(s). The best way to respond is to describe your responsibilities in detail and to connect them to the job you are interviewing for. Try to tie your responsibilities in with those listed in the job description for the new position. That way, the employer will see that you have the qualifications necessary to do the job. Focus most on your responsibilities that are directly related to the new jobs requirements. Its also important to be honest. Dont embellish your job, because you dont know who the hiring manager will be checking with when they check your references. â⬠¢ What major challenges and problems did you face? How did you handle them? Best Answers [pic]When asked the job interview question How did you handle a challenge? be sure to include specific examples of how you handled a particular difficult situation. Discuss how you researched the issue and contributed to finding a solution. Examples of good responses include: â⬠¢ During a difficult financial period, I was able to satisfactorily negotiate repayment schedules with multiple vendors. â⬠¢ When the software development of our new product stalled, I coordinated the team which managed to get the schedule back on track. We were able to successfully troubleshoot the issues and solve the problems, within a very short period of time. â⬠¢ A long-term client was about to take their business to a competitor. I met with the customer and was able to change how we handled the account on a day-to-day basis, in order to keep the business. â⬠¢ What did you like or dislike about your previous job? Best Answers [pic]When youre asked what dont like about your previous job, dont be too negative. The reason is that you dont want the interviewer to think that youll speak negatively about the new job or the company when youre ready to move on, if you get this job.Rather, it makes sense to talk about yourself and what youre looking for in a new role. Sample Answer I enjoyed the people I worked with. It was a friendly and fun atmosphere and I actually enjoyed going into work each morning. I felt the leadership team was great as well. They knew all of their employees on a first name basis and tried to make those personal connections. I also enjoyed that fact that the office tired to do community outreach with local organizations. One of the reasons I am leaving is that I felt I was not challenged enough at the job. It is important here to know how the definition normally used by the SST Circuit Court included the word dishonest, which does not appear in any of these definitions. 2. The issues are debatable and still center on the motives Of David Duncan when he ordered the shredding of documents and whether Andersen had an obligation to modify its procedures if an investigation was imminent. Remember, once Andersen was served with formal notice of an investigation, no documents were shredded. 3. The opinions of students will vary. Clearly, the contested issues concerning jury instructions were all decided in favor of the prosecution, The fact that by impeding an investigation, even without meaning to do so, was allowed to indicate that an obstruction of justice occurred could have major legal ramifications it used as a precedent. For example, it on your way home from class you inadvertently got in the way of a police officer responding to a crime, under he impede rule, could PU be guilty of obstruction of justice? 4. It is probably more appropriate to seek out individuals who engaged or directed illegal activities and take the appropriate actions against those individuals. 5. Students should understand that even if an action is legal it may not be ethical. Clearly, there were some actions taken that are questionable. The reminisces of ethics require auditors to act with integrity and to be mindful of the public trust. There are clearly issues Of integrity and the public trust in both the audit work and the shredding of documents following the disclosure that Enrons financial statements were fraudulent. 6. Opinions will vary. David Duncan directed the actual shredding of documents and probably knew an investigation was imminent. Even if he received direction from Nancy Temple concerning the document retention policy, he had the opportunity to determine the applicability of the policy to the situation and the mummifications outlining the policy in this instance. Remember, many people have gone to jail or suffered even greater consequences utilizing the defense that they were only following orders or, in this case, policy. 7. In litigation the plaintiffs attorneys often name multiple defendants. They do this for two basic reasons. First, if one of the plaintiffs is found harmless (the tort case equivalent of hot guilt, other plaintiffs may be found negligent or to have engaged in fraudulent actions. Therefore, the plaintiffs may still prevail (and collect damages) against those defendants. Second, if one or more defendant becomes insolvent (which may happen during a long trial where legal fees can escalate and cause create cash flow problems), the plaintiffs may collect from other defendants found liable in the lawsuit. This ability to collect in full from those who have the ability to pay is the basis for joint and several liability. Class action lawsuits can be the most damaging to plaintiffs. Several plaintiffs (sometimes thousands of plaintiffs) can file one lawsuit seeking damages that can total into millions Of dollars if proven. In addition, class action lawsuits may often e heard in several jurisdictions. Allowing the plaintiffs attorneys the ability to shop for a court they believe will be sympathetic to their clients. If a class action lawsuit is not allowed, many of the smaller claims may be dropped (the costs of the lawsuit outweighs the potential reward) and even larger suits must bare the legal fees individually. Further, the defense team is not engaging in a Winner take all contest. Each suit, possibly heard in different jurisdictions, will be required to prove its individual case for its plaintiff. OPT CLUB THE HARBINGER go THINGS TO COME? I _ Both Andersen and Elevenths Warmouth placed increasing profits as a greater priority than quality work or the public interest. While all firms engaged in providing services try to satisfy their client needs, firms must evaluate the overall situation and must consider their reputation for quality and doing the right thing. The desire to do whatever it takes to retain the client cost both firms greatly. 2. Students can debate this at great length. Clearly people tend to look at past events in shaping their decisions. We may have never been in a serious car accident, but knowing individuals that have had such experiences often hanged our driving habits. On the other hand, criminal psychics tells us that individuals that engage in criminal or unethical behavior rarely think about getting caught. This is especially true for top executives at firms and corporations that have often risen to their high position by taking significant risks in their career. They have reached the top level to the organization because these risks have generally proven rewarding. These past events often lead individuals to exhibit significant hubris in their decisions and actions. 3. Again, this is a question that can provide significant debate. There is no CPA or other authoritative pronouncements that has stated any restrictions on the use of an audit report on the financial statements as long as the accompanying information is not misleading. Clearly, the client paid for the product and, as such, has the right to its use. Indeed, using it to allay financial fears of investors and customers is clearly a societal demand for the existence Of an audit function. On the other hand, auditors do not write their audit reports such that it is suitable a general marketing tool. Audit reports are written for individuals hat understand the nature of auditing and financial reporting. A CPA firm may be able to restrict the use of its audit report through its engagement letter. However, the use of the audit report for unintended purposes may best be prevented through auditor/client communication and a continued professional relationship. The client should be encouraged to discuss uses Of its financial statements and accompanying information (including the auditors report). Misuse of the audit report over the firms objections should be a factor debated during the retention discussion for next years audit. . Normally a sales cutoff is performed only to determine that sales were recorded in the appropriate period. Therefore, it would not be within the normal audit procedures for Dolomite auditors to evaluate subsequent sales for other purposes. However, it can be argued that professional skepticism should require the auditor to evaluate sales (even subsequent sales) in evaluation of the limits placed on these sales, This should illustrate that doing what was done in prior audits or following audit programs blindly may not be sufficient to uncover existing problems. Conversely, Elevenths Homage audited sales and had no knowledge of the sales limits. This illustrates a lack of complete understanding of the clients business and sales process. S. Generally audit firms accept high-risk clients when revenue is deemed to exceed the risk. This often occurs when firms place an inordinate emphasis on maintaining or increasing revenue. 6. Many analytical procedures may be used especially those that looked at solvency. However, a vertical common size financial statement may be the best analytical procedure. The use Of expenses as a percentage Of sales, specifically n executive compensation and non-operating expenses, may have indicated to the auditors that insufficient earnings were flowing back into the organization. Clearly, audit procedures designed to look at executive compensation should have detected the underlying problems (the most likely did detect the problems; however, the red-flags were ignored). Confirmations with suppliers may have indicated missing documentation for construction. 7. Staff auditors are often reluctant to rock the boat. Often a staff auditor (with limited experience) is at a client that has been audited for many years either y his firm or another firm and processes have not be previously questioned. Members of the clients accounting and management teams are viewed as experts in their industry, business, and/or practice (e. . A payroll clerk who has been processing payroll for the client for 10 years), In addition, in-charge auditors, managers, and partners may have been past auditors of these practices and a question of the practice may be viewed as a question of the prior audits of the process. In addition, staff auditors often do not want to be the source of conflict between the client and the firm and view the questioning of the clients recesses and procedures as a potential conflict. 8. Ethics standards state that auditors should not accept engagements where they do not have (and cannot get) sufficient competence. OPT avgas clearly a unique business. Auditors accepting this engagement should have knowledge of not-for-profit accounting including issues regarding the raising of funds and the proper expenditure Of funds. L Auditors could spend additional time in the P TTL business following and understanding processes. Auditors may hire a consultant (specialist) to work With the firm to better understand the unique aspects Of the equines. Auditors may hire additional staff with experience in auditing other not-for-profit religious organizations that had some similar elements. 9. While in an audit off for-profit client tax issues may be viewed as a separate engagement. Only the issues of tax expense, tax payable and deferred taxes as they appear on the financial statements may be an audit issue. A not-for-profit organizations very existence may depend on maintaining its not-for-profit status. Therefore, significant violations that threaten this status may be viewed similarly to a going concern issue. As in evaluating going concern issues, auditors need to be aware of any items identified during the audit that threaten the not-for-profit status Of the organization (for an example see footnote l). 0, Clearly the preparation of checks violated the code of ethics as the auditors were knowingly acting as an employee of the organization and engaging in questionable client activities. Not signing the checks was a futile attempt by the auditors to meet the letter of the ethics standards. Students must understand that ethics transcends the few principles and rules set forth by the CPA and often trying to meet a standard (by not signing the check) cannot cleanse clearly unethical behavior. Undoubtedly, this issue would violate the principle Of the public trust as avgas a mechanism to donated funds sent to the organization by individuals to foster the work Of the OPT Club. Not-for-profit organizations are required to have mission statement. All money expended by the organization must be spent in fostering that mission. In auditing a not-for-profit organization it is imperative that auditors evaluate expenditures for proper use as well as all CPA assertions. Improper expenditure of money may result in the organization losing its not-for-profit status. RUNNING ON EMPTY I _ Examining the financial information in Exhibit I, it appears that Gas financial distress began in 2005_ It was during this year that GM suffered its first negative operating loss and first net loss. Similarly, Exhibit 2 reveals that Gems stock price significantly declined during 2005. 2. Professional standards identify the following factors indicative Of going- concern uncertainties: Negative trends (such as recurring operating losses, working capital deficiencies, active cash flow from operating activities, or adverse changes in key financial ratios). Other indications of financial difficulties (default on loan or similar agreements, reassess in dividends, denial of usual trade credit from suppliers, restructuring of debt, noncompliance with statutory capital requirements, the need to seek new sources or methods of financing, or the need to dispose of substantial assets). Internal matters (work stoppages or other labor difficulties, substantial dependence on the success to a particular project, uneconomic long-term commitments, or the need to significantly revise operations). External matters (legal proceedings; legislation; loss of a key franchise, license, or patent; loss of a principal customer or supplier; or, uninsured or undesired catastrophes 3. This is a question that requires judgment on the part Of the student. Clearly, while the losses in 2005 are of concern given Gems consistent profitability to that point, 2005 may have been viewed as an abnormal year and the loss judged to be a one-time occurrence. While GM also experienced a net loss in 2006, the amount Of this loss was louver than that in 2005 (likely because Of the spin-off Of GAMMA). In OTOH years, GM showed negative cash flow from operations, raising further questions as to Gems ability to continue as a going-concern. In 2007, Gems net loss reached almost $39 billion; however, cash flow from operations was a positive SO,7 billion in that year. Based on ALAS 341, the third consecutive year of recurring operating losses (see (2) above) might be interpreted as some to have been indicative of going-concern uncertainties. However, it is also reasonable to conclude that the positive cash flow from operations in 2007 might mitigate Dolomite Touches concerns to some extent. The following general economic factors in 2008 may have contributed to Dolomite Touches decision to issue an opinion modified for going-concern uncertainties: High oil prices, which resulted in high gasoline prices that reduced consumer demand for trucks and sports utility vehicles. The international credit crisis, which resulted in increased difficulty for Gems customers in obtaining credit, reducing demand for all vehicles. The general worsening of the U. S. Economy (including extensive layoffs and increases in unemployment), Which reduced consumer demand for all vehicles. 5. While it is far too early to comment on Gems potential success, these events following the GM bankruptcy may alleviate some Of the concerns Of Dolomite Touchà ©: Increased access to consumer credit and a more positive U. S. Economy, which may increase demand for vehicles. The terms of the restructuring plan, which provided the following potential benefits to GM: (a) additional capital; (b) organization of the less viable GM brands under Motors Liquidation Company; and, (c) reduced levels of debt, employees, dealers, and manufacturing plants (Exhibit 3). The Cash for Clunkers program that temporarily increased consumer demand or vehicles. The primary issue raised by a going-concern opinion is the continued existence of the entity receiving that opinion. Many speculated that such an opinion would make customers wary of purchasing automobiles from GM. Because of the inability to obtain parts or warranty service on the automobile if GM were to fail. With respect to investments in GM. The potential failure of an organization would make investors similarly wary. There is no correct response as to Whether a going-concern opinion is a self- fulfilling prophecy. The threat of continued existence is one that will never be solved with certainty. It's hard to reconcile this with the 'land of the free' and the 'home of the brave.' "2 Apparently many times callers have tried to get Howard Stern's show censored by the FCC. According to the FCC, "[callers who complain] stating only that the objectionable programming 'discussed sex' or had a 'disgusting discussion of sex' is not sufficient. Moreover, the FCC must know the context when analyzing whether specific, isolated words or images are obscene, indecent, or profane."3 Many times, Howard Stern has had people on his show who are on the fringes of society, including porn stars, hookers, wrestling personalities, politicians, and all kinds of people from various sectors of the American landscape. He prides himself on his show being one of the most controversial there is. Howard Stern's language has apparently not only been a bane to the FCC in the past, but also in the present. The FCC has long challenged many of Howard Stern's statements as being profane or obscene or indecent in nature. But the basic point of these kinds of shows is that they force people to think and reevaluate their concepts and notions of right and wrong. Howard Stern does this mainly to entertain-and shock-his listeners. He is known for saying outrageous things. Howard Stern flies in the face of modern radio broadcasting. His foul mouth, his daring attitude, and not-so-subtle displays of affection on his show have shocked and offended many, perhaps. However, what makes Howard Stern appealing as an artist is the very fact that he does shock his listeners. If it weren't for that added touch, he wouldn't be as special as other radio personalities. We looked on many websites to find ways to make an origami-type Lamborghini. All of the instructional videos that we found were at least an hour-and-a-half, or did not even look like a car. As we got to school I had the idea to look up paper models of Lamborghinis, the kind where it has the dotted lines and you cut it out, fold it where it says to, and tape it together. We printed it out and we could not get it big enough on a standard-sized piece of printer paper. There were five basic shapes on the model so we just decided to take five pieces of paper and draw the shapes much bigger and duplicate the design. After we drew the design and cut it all out we decided to cut out pieces of cardboard the same shape and put it behind the paper so it was more stable and added some weight. For our balloon, we put a hole in the back of the car that we could put a straw through, and taped the balloon to the straw. We taped the straw up on the back part of the car so when we blew up the balloon it would go straight up. Our wheel idea came to mind when I was drawing out an idea for our car. I was using a blue highlighter, accidentally dropped it, and we discovered how fast it rolled. We decided to try to pop out the center part of the highlighter so we could put a piece of wire through the center through the two ends and hook the wire through the bottom part of the sides of the car. We were going to use two highlighters, one in the front and one in the back, instead of ââ¬Å"4 wheelsâ⬠. However, we could not get the center out of the highlighters. We went ââ¬Å"dumpster divingâ⬠around the school and ending up getting pop caps from Ms. Chambers. Since our idea was to use highlighters and the wire, once we hammered a hold through each of the caps, we couldnââ¬â¢t figure out how to make them turn because we did not have a good axle. We tried to use just a straw for the axle and that did not work. We then tried to compact the straw so it was not as big around and that did not work either. We also tried to put nails through the caps and stick the nails into the side of the car but that did not work either. Our next idea was to go to the band room and put four timpani wheels on the bottom of our car, but they were way too heavy. Eventually we smashed the straws to make them thinner and put it inside a hollowed-out pen. This made a good axle and we used this for our car. As we tested our car to see if it would move, it did not. We realized that our car may be too heavy so we had to think of a Plan B. We decided to take five kabob sticks and hot glue them side-by-side so it was pretty much flat. We then put our Pepsi cap wheels on the bottom, and taped the straw and balloon on top. We tested it and it moved over five meters and the path it took was fairly straight. The speed of our car is 2. 37 Meters/second. We found our speed because it took 2. 37 seconds to travel one meter. Our car is a good example of inertia. It keeps moving until its ââ¬Å"power sourceâ⬠(balloon) runs out of air. It stops it because if the balloon never ran out of air, and if there was nothing in its path, our car would never stop moving. Itââ¬â¢s also an example of acceleration because it starts off slow, gets a little faster, and as the balloon starts to run out of air, it slows down again. Itââ¬â¢s also an example of every action has an equal and opposite reaction, because as the balloon releases air the car moves. Recent articles in The Chronicle of Higher Education report that students have complained to deans about professors critical of U.S. foreign policy, and boards of trustees, deans, and college presidents have drafted resolutions and issued public statements condemning their views. Professors have been shouted down, received volumes of hate mail and, on some campuses, death threats. In one case, a trustee publicly invited a professor "to take a hike." Historically, such attacks on free speech have risen sharply in times of national crisis -- precisely when a full range of views is sorely needed. They are particularly disturbing on campuses of higher education that should be strongholds of people who defend independent thinking. The nature of the arguments offered against these dissenting voices are very troubling; so too their political effects. The arguments fall into two groups. First, professors are charged with showing no concern for the feeling of others: they lack taste and judgment; they are insensitive, self-indulgent and offend others at a time when emotions are raw. In being so inattentive to their students' emotional sensitivities, dissenting faculty violate the trust students place in them. Now is not the time for critique, but for emotional nurturing, reassurance and national solidarity. Second, professors are charged with offering excuses for the attacks. Their examination of the role the United States may have played in creating conditions that make terrorist acts more likely amounts to a justification of the acts themselves. There is an emotional tyranny at play here, and its effect is to obstruct processes of understanding that alone will aid us in our ongoing debate over how to come to terms with terrorism. What do I mean by tyranny? In the first instance, we are being told that feelings alone are appropriate now. It is too early, indeed, it is tasteless, to begin to sort through our role in the complex factors that brought these people to their heinous acts. But understanding is crucial to wise action, and action, as we see in each morning's news, is most certainly being undertaken in our name. While we are being asked just to feel, the administration and its congressional allies hurry to pass laws that threaten our civil liberties at home, and engage in a massive war effort likely to foster greater resentment abroad. They think that university education is an essential element for success. However, I do not think that that is true at all. University education is only one of the keys for success but not the only key to achieve success. Some people may think that what success is being a millionaire or even a billionaire. Nevertheless, in the reality, being that kind of capitalists does not require any degree of education. It is a truth that having a higher degree of education can let us apply a higher salary job but it is not essential for being the tycoons. There are some real life examples to prove my argument is truth. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Richard Li choose to give up their opportunity to finish the university education and start their businesses. Although they do not have any diploma of graduation in the university, they can still run their business very well and earn a huge sum of money. University education is not an essential element for being a millionaire. Earning enormous figure of income does not request any degree. Moreover, what success is not only making a huge sum of money but also making our own dreams come true. Not everyone is giving weight money to a high position and what he or she wants is to accomplish his or her dreams. Different people have different dreams and some of the dreams may require a high level of education such as being a doctor or a lawyer in Hong Kong. It is necessary for the one who has these dreams to have a good academic result in A-Level exam and finish the university study to get the certification. However, some dreams do not claim any degree such as travelling around the world and having a perfectly satisfactory family. Therefore, we can grasp that how essential a university education is according to the oneââ¬â¢s dreams but university education is not essential for every dream. In addition, there are many other keys for success, such as the talents, intelligence, communication skills, social skills etc. To be successful in a career, we need those elements I mentioned above and cannot ignore their importance for success. The diploma is only just an admission ticket in our career. What the boss paying attention is not our level of education but our working ability. Thatââ¬â¢s mean the ability to get the project done in order to help the boss earning profit. Although one has a high education level, the boss would still fire him or her if he or she makes troublesome to the company. Therefore, the university education is not that essential as people think. In conclusion, the university education is only one of the key for success. New technology and medications are constantly emerging and because of this it is no wonder that today people live an average of six years longer than they did in 1990 (Life Expectancy). With the life expectancy continually increasing, there are more and more elderly drivers on the roads. In fact, the total annual miles older drivers traveled climbed twenty nine percent from 1995 to 2001 (ââ¬Å"Should elderlyâ⬠) and that number is probably even greater now. This can cause a huge problem not only for the elderly drivers themselves, but for other people on the road too. As the body ages, reaction rate, hearing, and vision naturally decline which makes an aging driver much more susceptible to driving accidents and fatalities. Senior citizens should not be denied the right to drive, but they should be required to retake driving tests when they renew their license. This will confirm that they are mentally capable of operating a c ar and will assure more safety for all drivers on the road. In attempts to aid senior drivers even more, measures should also be put in place to make the roads easier for them to navigate. It is no secret that as people age their bodies start to slow down. Even though these changes are natural and extremely common, it does not mean they should be ignored, especially when it comes to driving. Vision, reaction rate, and hearing are three major concerns for elderly drivers. In the United States alone more Amora Seeleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11553095884718277985noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4616406433784555817.post-22553744125020309722019-12-27T22:35:00.001-08:002019-12-27T22:35:03.790-08:00Descriptive Essay About Vacation - 992 Words It was a few days before our plane left for Cancun, Mexico. The most pressing, or popular issue, within this battle, seems to be which public bathrooms should be used by transgender individuals. On the one hand, conservatives believe that everyone should go to the bathroom specified for the gender they were born with, claiming that invasion of privacy and safety issues would be bound to arise in allowing transgender individuals to go to the bathroom of their choice. While proponents claim that the transgender community is excluded from society, bullied, and forced to live as the gender they were born as, not what they identify with--leaving them restricted, oppressed, and denied of their basic freedoms and rights under the Constitution (Scherer). Are there bigger issues at hand than where someone should go to the bathroom? Why is there so much controversy over such a daily simple task as going to the bathroom? Maybe the real problem is that we, as a U.S. society, have created a separation of genders in numerous social constructs where there need not be even distinction of these genders. Our beliefs have always been that there are only two genders and that with these two genders comes specific traits, behaviors, and characteristics-- that crossing the barrier of the genders by behaving what we consider toShow MoreRelatedWe Are A Divided Society1744 Words à |à 7 Pagesbelong. Answer: The tasks and activities I undertook in my internship were challenging and purposeful. Working as a front desk officer at Island Travel Inn Hotel has defined my career in the hospitality industry. I noticed that the front office made me the public face of the organization because it involves receiving and handling guests during their stay(Lanz, 2017). I turned to be the nerve center of the operations of Island Travel Inn Hotel. Through this internship, I always got an opportunity to interact and serve clients successfully. Interestingly, I managed to grasp the expectations of the clients and the organization based on the guidance of my mentor and colleagues. Without a doubt, I have realized that the front office department encompasses the reservations, guest service offices, reception, executive club, recreational and business center, and operators(Erasmus, 2014). The workers attached to this department provide the impression of the facility to guests. To this effect, I have learned that employees need to display courteous and prompt attitude to the hotels guests. My first-4 weeks as an internship student in various countries in the hospitality industry have given me an outstanding experience. However, my working in the front desk department in Island Travel Inn Hotel, Canada provided me a unique opportunity and exposure. This is because, in this hotel, I took the lead role in executing the guest services. My team executed the best services that created an exceptional experience for all the guests. I give credit to my mentors and colleagues who helped me adjust to this new environment thus upscale my skills in serving clients. I must reiterate that I worked hand-in-hand with my workplace peers and mentor who offered feedback regularly. These worthy peers never let me made mistakes but guided me throughout my cause thus making their support valuable and productive. My MBA classes proved relevant because most of my classroom knowledge and theory have made me an outstanding person in the hospitality industry. For instance, I had to set my workplace goals, which helped me add value to the Hotel. Team leadership was an important factor in helping achieve my goal because it focused on system understanding training, observation, shadow training, and understand the hotels front desk team (Farhan, 2014). I have completely integrated these skills into the internship. Without a doubt, my work at the Island Travel Inn Hotel has proved incredible because it ensured I provided superior customer services thus assuring guests of quality experience. This is part of my core goals and interests, as it opened me new and exciting opportunities. With this experience, I anticipate becoming a forward-thinking and innovative leader. For the first time, I became part of a team who developed a culture that offered workers a rewarding and motivating work environment for Island Travel Inn Hotel to thrive. Bibliography Erasmus, D. Animal liberationists fall under the animal liberation movement which is a global animal rights movement that operates under three major components; legal development, direct action and philosophical debate.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Morality and Justice specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The animal rights movement seeks an end to the status of animals as property as well as end the legal distinction that exists between human and non human living beings. Animal liberationists believe that all non human animals deserve protection from harmful activities that are meant to benefit human beings (Cahn and Markie 825). Animal liberationists share the believe that the basic interests of non-human animals should be observed and protected a nd that the legal world should confer these animals legal rights to protect them from any harm or injustice. Animal liberationists differ from utilitarian liberationists who believe that animals do not possess any moral rights. Utilitarian liberationists argue that moral decisions are based on the happiness of the majority number since animals have the ability to withstand suffering and this suffering is usually taken into account in moral decisions. Animal liberationists believe that animals lack the ability to withstand any form of suffering and they therefore advocate that animals should be accorded similar rights to human beings (Cahn and Markie 589). Environmentalists on the other hand believe in environmental conservation and the reduction of environmental pollution to improve the state of the environment. Environmentalism is deemed to have a social movement that advocates for the conservation of the environment through lobbying, activism and education. Environmentalists speak out about the various environmental issues around the world and what people can do to protect the natural resources and ecosystems in the environment. Environmentalists also advocate for the introduction of public policies that will reduce the amount of green house emissions and pollution that takes place in the environment. Environmentalists and environmental organizations in general seek to make the world a greener and safer place to live (Gottlieb 389). Theoretical Perspectives of Animal Liberationists and Environmentalists According to various researchers such as J. Baird Callicott, animal liberationists and environmentalists share distinct and inconsistent theoretical perspectives. Callicott was of the opinion that animals did not deserve any form of rights and he termed animal liberationists to be incoherent when they spoke of animalââ¬â¢s natural behavior.Advertising Looking for essay on ethics? With regards to environmentalists, Callicott noted that they were more holistic and real than the animal liberationists since they allocated moral values to the natural ecosystems and resources of the environment (Jamieson 197). Callicott provides an example of some bacteria which might be of greater value to the natural environment and economy than domesticated animals such as dogs, cats or rabbits. This meant that such bacteria or natural resources deserved more value commitment and recognition than the domesticated or non human animals. This meant that Callicott supported the views and beliefs of environmentalists instead of those of animal liberationists. The theoretical perspective of the land ethic proposes that inanimate entities such as mountains, forests, oceans and lakes are assigned a grea ter value than the animate objects which include wild and domesticated animals. Callicott further argues that animal liberationists fail to meet the criterion of measuring whether animal ethics meet the environmental land ethics. This is because animal liberationists have more in common with anthropocentric ethics than they do with environmental land ethics (Jamieson 198). The idea that environmentalism and animal liberation have distinct concepts and qualities is a fact that has come as a surprise to many who view these two concepts to be similar in purpose and meaning. This is mostly because these two concepts share the same enemies such as air and water polluters who negatively affect the survival and existence of animals in their natural habitats or loggers and lumberjacks who destroy the natural ecosystems of birds and wild animals that reside in forests. Also the historic background of the environmental movement shows that most environmentalists advocated for the end of animal suffering by showing concern to how animals are treated in their domesticated or wild environments (Carter 42). The modern environmentalists and animal liberationists that are in existence today have their foundation from the post World War II era where social movements opposed the use of nuclear weapons to eliminate the war threats and a culture that viewed human beings and other animals to be commodities that could easily be replaced. These social movements came to form the modern environmental and animal liberation movements that are in existence today. Environmentalists today are more than likely to be concerned with the rights and health of animals than they would be with the health of old forests and other natural resources (Carter 42).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Morality and Justice specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More While many people are members of both the environmental and animal liberation movemen ts, there are several differences that exist between the two concepts. For example animal liberationists are viewed to have a lot more in common with conventional morality than with environmentalism and environmentalist ethical standards. Jamieson (198) in his thesis focuses on the differences that exist amongst these two groups and also how they are able to share a consistent theoretical perspective. These differences emerged during the counter-culture period of the 1960s that promoted the use of drugs and the opposition of the government as a moral obligation. The differences that emerged between the environmentalists and animal liberationists were the elimination of wild animals that were deemed to be dangerous to the environment so that fewer of these animals would suffer and die and the conversion of wilderness areas into places where animals could be domesticated and taken care. Callicott in his 1980 article further noted that differences existed between animal liberationists and environmentalists and this article was used in influencing the environmental community during the 80s. Mark Sagoff, who agreed with Callicottââ¬â¢s views, noted that animal liberationists if given the power would incorporate anti-environmentalist policies that would eliminate the need of destroying animals that were harmful to environmental conservation efforts (Jamieson 200). The distinction between the two concepts became more distinct in the early 1980s where environmentalists had to embrace newer values that involved the view of natural ecosystems and resources as having a more significant value than land or conventional moral ethics. Environmentalists differed from animal liberationists in that they viewed value commitment to be independent from conscious beings and other aspects of nature that were inherently valuable. Once this distinction was made, most animal liberationists sought to separate themselves from environmentalists because they opposed the notion that huma n and non human animals deserved to be sacrificed to achieve a greater biotic good. It therefore became difficult to assert the rights of human beings in such lines of thinking which led to a greater division between the animal liberalists and the environmentalists (Jamieson 201). Despite his rhetorical 1980 essay, Callicott sought to bridge the divide that existed between these two groups in his 1989 article where he stated that animal liberalists and environmentalists could be united under a common theoretical perspective. He noted that animal liberationists could protect vegetarian animals from their carnivorous predators and that environmentalists had the ability to protect carnivorous animals from environmental degradation and destruction of their natural habitats and ecosystems.Advertising Looking for essay on ethics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Jamieson (203) noted that plausible and conventional ethics should address the various concerns that existed about animals and the natural environment. He noted that the issues that affected animals also affected the environment and that these two concepts could not continue to operate separately without having a direct impact on the other. Moral theory of Animal Liberationists and Environmentalists Jamieson (203) notes that animal liberationists and environmentalists can be able to share the same theoretical perspectives and moralistic theories. This is because human beings in general have placed a lot of emphasis on the protection of the environment and the animal habitat. Since animal liberalists value the natural animal habitat to have a significant value, they can also embrace the environmental values that environmentalists prescribe to. Animal liberation is viewed to be an environmental ethical issue which means that it can be used to create awareness and empower environmental ists and environmental movements. Jamieson (210) argues that there is a great deal of evidence that exists in the theoretical convergence between animal liberationists and environmentalists. Both groups have political leverage and wealth to change the masses views on their causes and beliefs. Environmental and animal issues play an important role in the choices that people make everyday. What people wear or eat every day is usually determined by the current environmental and animal issues. If an individual refrains from eating meat, they are part of a social movement rather than a vegetarian Jamieson (211). Jamieson (204) proposes that several theoretical perspectives can be used for these two concepts which are primary and derivative values as well as intrinsic and non intrinsic values. Primary and derivative values argue that animals are able to withstand suffering and their lives can move from better or worse based on their primary environments and natural habitats. Jamieson note s that non sentient entities do not have a perspective on whether their lives can go from better or worse. The value of their lives will therefore depend on how the adapt to sentient beings. Intrinsic and non-intrinsic values state that an animalââ¬â¢s life can go from better to worse where such properties are intrinsic to the animal. According to Jamieson (205), whether a creature lives or dies will depend on how they relate with the environment. This means that animals and the natural environment can be valued to be intrinsic and non intrinsic at different times and within different context Jamieson (206). Conclusion This essay has focused on whether animal liberationists and environmentalists can be able to share a consistent theoretical perspective. The essay has revealed that these two groups have differences despite sharing the same goals and dealing with similar issues. The essay has shown that animal liberation movements and environmental groups have a common purpose whic h is to ensure the safety of animals and the protection of the environment. Despite sharing several differences and distinctions, these two concepts share the same theoretical perspectives as they serve to protect animals and the natural environments in which these animals live in. In general, animal liberalists protect animals by trying to conserve their natural ecosystems while environmentalists protect natural ecosystems and animal habitats by conserving the environment in which these animals live in. This means that these two concepts can be able to share a similar theoretical perspective. Works Cited Cahn, Steven and Peter Markie. Ethics: history, theory and contemporary issues, 4thà Edition. For Americans, ever since 9/11 we fear more than ever for our security at home more than abroad. Our security is tighter than ever, sometimes to the point of being ridiculous, and we have been taught to accept government agencies stepping on our rights because it "keeps us safe." We have entered into an age of racial profiling, distrust, and fear that has allowed our government to use bills like the P.A.T.R.I.O.T Act to work around our individual rights. In times of fear, we are more pliable to the influences of those who claim they can protect us. This era of fear leads us into a big issue that is often not discussed or is hushed up: the unlawful arrest of activists in the name of homeland security. And the environmental activists have seen the worst of it. Environmental activists are an easy target for a suspicious government and a willingly submissive public. They are easy to target because they, in general, are outspoken and sometimes violent. Because they try to be so in the public eye, they become easy targets to track down unlike more allusive enemies. Michael Brady Although this violence is very rarely targeted at people, this still gives the government ammunition to detain violent and nonviolent protestors alike. And because the government and the media have become so adapt at making environmental activists look like radical terrorists, the general public lets cases like the SHAC 7 happen unjustly. Even when it is fair for activists to be brought up on charges, they are more often than not given inflated sentences, sometimes being sentenced longer than violent religious terrorists who were out to do harm (Potter). If you go to the website for Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium' or TRAC', you will find that even within organizations there is some confusion as to the threat of environmental terrorism in our country. The blurb under Environmental Terrorist Groups' reads, "Most Significant Terror Threat to the United States since 1976, environmental terrorists within the United States have carried out over one thousand criminal acts and caused over one hundred and ten million dollars worth of damage. But the image of environmental activists as dangerous, even violent criminals is still jarring to the average American. We do not tend to think of environmental activism as being in the same category as other types of "terrorists" - including militias, jihadists or nationalist activists throughout the world. However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation defines environmental terrorism (or ecoterrorism) as Michael Brady the most significant domestic terror threat facing the United States today. And this threat is seen to have increased significantly in the past twenty years in terms of the types of acts committed, their potential for deadly violence and the numbers of individuals involved in committing these acts." The most significant domestic terror threat facing the US. Yes, you read that correctly. Not white supremacy, not radical extremism, but environmental activism is our nations greatest threat. They even admit the fact that it is very hard for most Americans to image environmental activists as terrorists and yet they are. There has yet to be a single human killed in an action put forward by an environmental rights group, yet they are labeled our most dangerous threat. Here is where the issue starts. With the FBI. Before I discuss the FBI's current issues of attack, lets remind ourselves of the government's past intrusions on our civil liberties, the most famous and most recent case being the Red Scare of the Cold War. Following the end of World War II, the US and the USSR moved into a state of nonviolent war. A power play really. As the world's two great super powers, they both wanted to one up each other constantly. And they were constantly fearing that the others political theory would take over the others. Because of this, the US feel into this constant fear of the Red Scare', a fear that communism would take over. This fear gave government officials like Joseph McCarthy the right to recreate the age-old witch-hunt. This ancient art of movement is a low intensity non-competitive form of exercise that can be safely practiced by children at any level of physical fitness. Yoga is derived from Sanskrit, one of the worlds most ancient languages. In its simplest form, yoga means a bringing together of the parts in order to create a union or balance of a persons body, mind and spirit. (Dworkis, www.extensionyoga.com) It was developed by yogis who went into the jungles of India, thousands of years ago to meditate. During meditation these yogis observed animal movements. The development of some of the present day yoga postures actually come from these observations. (Holander, 97, 1) This form of fitness session is a great alternative to do with a group of primary aged students. Firstly the non-competitive and overall harmonious nature of yoga can alleviate any feelings of physical inadequacies that some students may harbour. Therefore, you are more likely to see greater motivation and participation towards the activities as the students who may not be as physically fit or coordinated as other classmates will have the opportunity to try out a new exercise without ridicule or defeat. Secondly this form of fitness session is a fantastic one to do with students who are within their peak height velocity or students experiencing the effects of puberty. This scientific system of exercises or poses are designed to strengthen bones, stretch muscles, massage internal organs, increase blood flow and increase flexibility of the tendons, joints and ligaments. The implication of this is that there is a world order that all countries abide to but with no clearly drafted international laws that ought to be followed by all nation states. Additionally, certain issues like homosexuality, differences in political ideologies and gender discrimination prevent international laws from achieving legitimacy. International law therefore is a set of laws formed by international treaties, customs, and other organizations that govern the relations between or among different sovereign nations. Here, the international customs refer to the customs that have evolved over centuries. Treaties and international agreements on the other hand are agreements among different nation states. The international organizations and conferences are mainly composed of different sovereign nation states and are normally bound by a treaty, for instance the 1980 Convention on Contracts for the International Sales of Goods (CISG). The Nature of International Law International law is very different from the other areas of law because it does not have a defined governing body or area but instead refers to different set of rules, laws and customs that impact, govern and deal with the legal interactions between different nation states, governments, organizations and businesses. It comprehensively deals with the rights and responsibilities of the involved parties clearly defining and elucidating the procedures to be followed in case of any misunderstandings. International law cuts across many countries and regions which makes it agreeable to all the member states. For this to be possible, it borrows charters (i.e. the United Nations Charter), agreements, accords, and treaties, legal precedents of the International Court of Justice (The World Court), memorandums and tribunals. What makes international law a voluntary endeavor is that it does not h ave a unique enforcing entity and governing body. This means that for any enforcement to exist, all the signatory parties have to consent and adhere to that specific decision and assist the court in the implementation process. A good example of this is the East African Community where the member states have laws that govern them as a unit. The laws that address matters of international concern include both the statutes created by governing bodies (civil law) and the common law (case law) because of the diverse nature of the different legal systems and historical backgrounds of the different countries involved. Under the international law, all the facets of national law are covered and go on to include aspects like substantive law, remedies and procedure. In order to make the laws operable in the signatory countries, there are certain principles or guidelines that are normally followed when it comes to their formulation and implementation (Alam 399). However it should be noted that t hey only work on the basis that there is courtesy and respect between the member states. The principles of International Law The Principle of Comity The principle of comity provides a code of decorum that governs court interactions among the different localities, foreign countries and member states. Therefore, forming associations with Levisââ¬â¢ allows it to attach a designer brand name with it that is accepted and received well in affluent customerââ¬â¢s segment. 3) Considering this case study, Wal-Mart has an edge over Levisââ¬â¢ in this corporate strategic alliance. This is so because Levisââ¬â¢ needs Wal-Mart for its business expansion as its own showrooms and other smaller retail networks have been proven incapable of attracting major customer base. Secondly, Levisââ¬â¢ has made considerable capital investment along with extensive business restructuring to suit Wal-Martââ¬â¢s model. Therefore, Levisââ¬â¢ is dependent on Wal-Mart for cost-recovery and further business revival. Whereas Wal-Mart has a tendency of switching to other suppliers who wi ll offer better profit margins without incurring much liability. Therefore, Wal-Mart has a greater bargaining power as compared to Levisââ¬â¢. 4) Wal-Mart follows a broad target/ cost leadership generic strategy (Porter, 1980). It has multiple product lines that cater to every demographic segment. Furthermore, it has an extensive retail model with around 9000 stores worldwide. Such extensive network makes it a premium choice of suppliers due to which it has a greater bargaining power to persuade suppliers for providing their products at considerably low prices, as compared to other retail stores. 5) ââ¬ËBarriers to entryââ¬â¢ is an edge used by various leading market players to create obstacles for preventing new competitors from easily entering into market, industry or particular area (Sullivan & Sheffrin, 2003). Wal-Mart has developed a state of art automated system that is synched with its suppliers through point-of ââ¬âsale mechanism. Therefore, the moment a product is bought, a supplier is notified which results into timely product delivery. As a result, customers prefer to stay with Wal-Mart since they know that their desired product will be available readily. This strong link with suppliers requires higher switching cost which is difficult to incur for its competition. As a result, their customers would also prefer Wal-Mart over them (Competing with information technology, n.d). 6) Value chain constitutes of following activities along with examples from Wal-Martââ¬â¢s case study: Production- No self-production, acting as a retailer Production Management- Inventory management Quality Management- Extensive IT network and huge workforce Marketing & Sales- Sales teams dealing with suppliers General management- store management, venue management Marketing and sales management- Sales team heads dealing with suppliers in a particular industry Accounting and Finance- In-house finance department performing general accounting, forecasting etc. Res earch and development- Constant acquisition of market intelligence and tools to make IT its niche. Such a trend, requires assurance of the quality of data storage services which involves two concerns from both cloud users and cloud service providers: data integrity and storage efficiency. It is much more simple than internet. It is a service that allows user to access applications that actually exist at location other than userââ¬â¢s own computer or other devices on network. There are many benefits of this technology. For example any other company hosts user application. Cloud computing is nothing new as it uses approaches, concepts, and techniques that have already been developed. But on the other side everything is new as cloud computing changes how we invent, develop, deploy, scale, update, maintain, and pay for applications and the infrastructure on which they run. Cloud Computing is an efficient way of computing as it centralizes the storage, memory and processing. Fault tolerance has the property to assess the capability of the system to react graceciouslly to a hardware and software failure which is not expected. In assortment to attain robustness or raptness in cloud computing, failure should be determined and handled carefully. This paper will give basic knowledge about Fault tolerance Approaches. The Methods used for fault management in cloud We also study some existing fault management models which tolerates fault in cloud environment. Then figure out the best model of fault tolerance. Fault tolerance deals with all different approaches that provides robustness ,availaibility and dependability .The major use of enforcing fault tolerance in cloud computing include recovery from different hardware and software failures, reduced cost and also improves performance . Robustness is the property of providing of with an accurate service in an unwanted situation that can arise because of an unexpected system state. Dependability is something that need to be achieved. It is one of the very important aspects for cloud provider. It includes dependability as well as availability. It is related to some of the Quality of service issues delivered by the system. Fault tolerance intent to accomplish robustness and dependability in the cloud environment.Fault tolerance techniques can be classified into types depending on the policies of fault tolerance viz, Proactive Fault Tolerance : Proactive fault tolerance simple means early prediction of the problem before it actually arises. Reactive fault tolerance: This policy handles the failure. The effect of failure is reduced when the failure actually occurs. This could be further divided into two sub-procedures : 1. Error Processing 2. Flaw Treatment The first process eliminates error from the system. Fault treatment tries to prevent faults from getting reactivated . Fault tolerance is accomplished by error processing. Error Processing has two main phases. The first phase is ââ¬Å"effective error processingâ⬠which means bringing the effective error back to a latent state and if possible it is done before occurrence of a failure. The Second Phase is ââ¬Å"latent error processingâ⬠which aims to ensure that the error is not reactivated. II. Existing Fault Tolerance Approaches In Cloud The different techniques used for fault tolerance in cloud are : Check pointing: It is a good fault tolerance approach .It is used for applications which have a long running time. In check pointing technique , check pointing is done after each change in system state. It is useful when a task is not able to complete. It fails in the middle due to some error. Then that task is made to begin from the most recent check pointed state instead of restarting it from the beginning. Task Migration : There may be a case when a task in not able to complete on the assigned specific virtual machine . When this type of task failure occurs then that task could be moved other machine. This can be performed by using HA-Proxy. Replication: Replication simply means copying. The replica of tasks is executed on distinct resources if the original instance af task fails. It is done to get the actual required result. Replication can be implemented by using various tools. Some of the tools are Hadoop , HA Proxy or Amazon EC2. Self- Healing : A big task can divided into parts .This division is done for better performance. It results in creation of variant application instance. The instances run on distinct virtual machines. In this way automated failure management is done for instances. Safety bag checks: This strategy is quite simple. It blocks the command which does not met the requirements for safe execution or proper working of machine. S-Guard : It is a stream Processing techniques. It makes available more resources. It use the mechanism of Rollback recovery. Check Pointing is done Asynchronously. It is used for distributed environment. S-Guard is performed using Hadoop or Amazon EC2. Retry : A task is made to execute repeatedly .This approach try to re execute the failed job on same machine . Task Resubmission : A task failure can make the complete job also fail. So when a failed task is identified ,it should be submitted to same or either distinct resource for reexecution. Time checker : Time checker is a supervised technique. A watch dog is used. It consider Critical time function. Rescue workflow : This strategy is used for Fault tolerance in workflow execution. Reconfiguration: The configuration of the system is changed in this technique. The faulty component is removed. Resource Co-allocation: It increases the availability of resources. It takes care of multiple resources. Resource allocation is done to complete the execution of task. III. Fault Tolerance Models Various Fault Tolerance Models are designed using these techniques. These techniques are combined with one another and then applied or simply used individually. Some of Existent fault tolerance models are : ââ¬Å"AFTRC A Fault Tolerance Model for Real Time Cloud Computingâ⬠is designed by keeping the fact in mind that real time systems have good computation. These systems are also scalable and make use of virtualization techniques which helps in excuting real time applications more effectively. This model is designed by considering the dependability issue. The model make use of proactive fault strategy and predicts the faulty nodes. ââ¬Å"LLFT Low Latency Fault Tolerance â⬠act as a middleware for tolerating faults. It is useful for distributed application which are running in cloud. In this model fault tolerance is provided like a service by cloud providers. Applications are replicated by middleware. In this way replication helps in handling of faults for different applications. ââ¬Å"FTWS Fault Tolerant WorkFlow Schedulingâ⬠is a model based on replication approach. It also makes use of resubmission technique. A metric is maintained for checking the priority of tasks and they are submitted accordingly. The principle of workflow is used in this model. Workflow means a series of task executed orderly. Data dependency decides the order. Fault management is done while the workflow is scheduled. ââ¬Å"FTMâ⬠is one of the most flexible model. It delivers fault tolerance as on demand service. The user has a advantage that without having known the working of model ,they can specify the required fault tolerance. It is mainly designed for dependability issues. It consists of various components. Each component has its own functionality. â⬠Candyâ⬠is component base availability modeling frame work. It is mainly designed for availaibility issues. System modelling language is used to construct a model from specifications. This is done semi automatically. ââ¬Å"Vega-wardenâ⬠is a uniform user management system. It creates global work space for variant applications and distinct infrastructure. This model is constructed for virtual cluster base cloud computing environment to overcome the 2 problems: usability and security which arise from sharing of infrastructure. ââ¬Å"FT-Cloudâ⬠has a mechanism of automatic detection of faults. It makes use of frequency for finding out the component. ââ¬Å"Magi-Cubeâ⬠is a kind of architecture for computing in cloud environment. It is designed for dependability, expenditure and performance issues. All three issues are related to storage. This architecture provides highly reliable and less redundant storage. This storage system is done for metadata handling. It also handles file read and write. IV. Fault Tolerant Model for Dependable Cloud Computing Fault Tolerant Model for dependable cloud computing is a model designed for dealing with failures in cloud . As we all know Cloud Computing Environment is made up of virtual machines or you can say nodes. The applications run on these nodes. Using this model faulty nodes are detected and replaced by correctly performing nodes. This is done for real applications. Now on what criteria the model can decide a node to be faulty ? There can be various parameters for detecting faulty node but this model makes use of dependability or dependability measurement. The criteria could be changed according to userââ¬â¢s requirement. A. Working of Model The model is designed for X virtual machines. X distinct algorithms run on the X nodes. Input buffer feeds the data to nodes. The input data is then moved onwards to all the nodes simultaneously. When the node gets the input it starts its operation. It performs some functions as designed or stated by the algorithm . In other words , the algorithm runs on nodes and gives a result .The Funtioning of every module is different. Accepter Module This module tests the nodes for correct result. It verifies the result of algorithms. If the result is faultless or as required then the result is forwarded further for evaluation of dependability. The appropriate result is sent to timer module. The inappropriate result is not forwarded instead signal is sent. Timer Module This module has a timer set for every node .It checks the time of result. If the result is generated before the time set or within that assigned time the only it forwards the result. Dependability Assessor This module is responsible for checking of dependability of nodes. At the starting of system the dependability for each node is set to it maximum that is cent percent. When computations are performed the dependability of nodes dynamically changes. The dependability is decided on the basis of time and correctness of result. Dependability increases if the result is accurate and on time. The highest and lowest limit of dependability is set in the beginning. The node with dependability value less than the lowest dependability is replaced. It also sends a message to resource manager. The result of dependability assesers forwards the results to descision maker module. Decision Maker It gets the result from dependability assessors. A selection of node is done from all perfect nodes. The node which has the maximum dependability is selected. It makes the comparison between the dependability level of nodes and system dependability. System dependability is important to be attained by a node. In case all the node fails to achieve the system dependability then a failure notification is issued. A failure notification means that all the nodes have failed for this computation cycle. Now backward recovery is done using check points .Decision maker also asks the resource manager to replace the node with lowest dependability with the new one. Check Pointing Check Pointing saves the state of system. It is done at regular small intervals. It is helpful in a scenario when a system fails completely. The strategy helps in automatic recovery form the check pointer state. This automatic recovery is done only when all the nodes fails. The system continues to work properly with rest of the nodes. Fig .1.Fault Tolerant Model For Dependable Cloud Computing B. Mechanism Of the Model Dependability Assessment Algorithm Begin Initially dependability:=1, n :=1 Input from configuration RF, maxDependability, minDependability Input nodestatus if nodeStatus =Pass then dependability := dependability + (dependability * RF) if n > 1 then := n-1; else if processing node Status = Fail then dependability: = dependability ââ¬â (dependability * RF * n) n: = n+1; if dependability >= max Dependability then Dependability: = max Dependability if dependability Call Add new node ( ); End Decision Mechanism Algorithm Begin Initially dependability:=1, n :=1 Input from RA nodeDependability, numCandNodes Input from configuration SRL bestDependability := find_dependability of node with highest dependability if bestDependability >= SRL status := success else perform_backward_recovery call_proc: remove_node_minDependability call_proc: add_new_node End C. Result In the first cycle, both VirtualMacine-1 and VirtualMachine-3 have the same dependability, but the result of VM-1 has been selected as it has a lower IP address. VM-3 output was selected by DM from cycle 2 to 4, as it has the highest dependability among competing virtual machines. In cycle 5 VirtualMachine-3 still has the highest dependability, but it is not selected. Because its result was not passed by AT and TC, so consequently, it was not among competing virtual machines. TABLE I : Result v. Conclusion and future work Tolerance of faults makes an important problem in the scope of environments of cloud computing. Fault tolerance method activates when a fault enters the boundaries i.e theoretically these strategies are implemented for detecting the failures and make an appropriate action before failures are about to occur. I have looked after the need of fault tolerance with its various methods for implementing fault tolerance. Various called models for fault tolerance are discussed .In the present scene, there are number of models which provide different mechanisms to improve the system. But still there are number of problems which requires some concern for every frame work. There are some drawbacks non of them can full fill the all expected aspects of faults. So might be there is a possibility to carried over the drawbacks of all previous models and try to make a appropriate model which can cover maximum fault tolerance aspect.
